John Whipple's 1880's Airbrush Patents

    

    

John Whipple had some novel ideas about the airbrush. He had twin needle designs, one of which used an ingenious gear arrangement running off the wind-wheel to power the second needle. In the lower right hand picture, you can clearly see his squared "bow" shaped needle. This enabled him to use a finer wire producing a finer line. The other needle is tapered and has an eye that the wire "walking bar can pass through. You can use either needle; the "bow" for finer work and the tapered one for a more flexible, adjustable spray pattern. Yes, you could use them both together but I can't think of why you would want to.
