Terry, the Lucky Travel Monkey

Terry, the Lucky Travel Monkey is a small stuffed animal that travels with me around the world for both luck and companionship. Terry was first discovered in a McDonald's Happy Meal package in 1994 and has stayed with me ever since. Even at home here in Los Angeles, California, USA, the monkey still goes wherever I go; I keep Terry in the back window of my car.

Originally just called my "Lucky Travel Monkey," the name "Terry" was suggested by a friend in Hong Kong who called it "Terry the Tarsier." Although it is small like a tarsier, its eyes are not big enough, but since the name "Terry" resembles the latin word "terra" (for 'Earth'), and since the monkey travels around the globe, Terry it was...but it is still a monkey.

I have documented Terry's travels with my digital camera. The monkey has traveled to many other places, but no known photos exist. Sadly, in 1999 when I last visited New York City, I really wanted to take a "monkeypic" of the monkey with the World Trade Center in the background. I lacked the time to take the picture, so I left the place thinking, "Maybe next time...New York's not gonna go away..." A sobering reminder to never take anything, or any place, for granted.
 
I will make it a point, though, to have Terry pose in front of a landmark of a major city I visit, so keep checking this page to see where the monkey will go next!
